Funding Sources for Improvements to 41 Corridor Highlighted at the Chamber of Southwest Florida’s October Luncheon

FORT MYERS (November 1, 2011): A distinguished panel of community leaders gave the audience a vision for the future of US 41 in Charlotte County, the City of Fort Myers and the City of Naples.  Mayor Randy Henderson gave an overview of the incentives and grant opportunities that are available for improvements to the streetscape along Cleveland Avenue (US 41) in the City of Fort Myers.  Grants are available up to $50,000, and a small grant was recently given to Orthopedic Specialists to address landscaping of their new facility.  Additional incentives are available through Enterprise Zone programs.

Mayor Henderson also shared the news that more medical-related businesses are expected to move to Cleveland Avenue near Lee Memorial

Hospital. Other new businesses are also expected to take advantage of the redevelopment opportunities available on 41 in downtown Fort Myers, including Race Trac and Grant Motors.

Renderings of the proposed improvements to US 41 in downtown Fort Myers illustrate landscaped medians, bike paths and pedestrian walkways, and feature a design that brings the buildings closer to the street.  Plans also include a new transfer station at the Edison Mall.  “Our template was the City of Naples,” said Mayor Henderson, “they have done a great job.”
